Abstract of my Study
My primary topic of study is the typologies in resort designs and its relationship between the urban fabric the resort is located in. Particularly focusing and having the interest in the spatial configurations of resort campuses in vacation sites like that of Puerto Rico and trying to figure out the impacts they have in the communities around the resort. Focusing more into that scope, the impacts I will mainly focus on will be the relation in context with the location the resort is in. I will be defining the terms Resort by its typology and design features that are provided. I would like to study elements of the social aspects: recreational, relaxation, sun/shade, etc. Anything and everything about social aspects of how a person thinks and acts in order to utilize the space. A resort is designed a particular way to create this relaxed feeling to it. I want to study what that is. At the same time, I want to focus on how these configurations work as a contextual influence to the people using the site. Where are these people going? Where they coming from? Why do they use this path? What are the physical conditions? Personally, I think the resorts of Puerto Rico would be an interesting match to this topic because the prestigious connotation it has. While planning on which area to study, I asked myself why not study multiple sites. I decided to come up with the idea of going to Puerto Rico and studying the resort campuses there and going to a majority of the Caribbean islands and doing a study there with how the resorts are used there and comparing the result within those sites with Puerto Rico and comparing how these resorts are used based on the social and cultural constructs of the place.
